RACE WEEKEND REPORT | WSBK Hungary 2025

The 2025 Superbike World Championship debuted at Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary with Round 8, marking the first-ever WorldSBK visit to the newly completed venue. The weekend provided high drama, multiple crashes and a standout performance from Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW), who swept all three races to further extend his championship lead. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati) and Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS) were also prominent throughout, while Álvaro Bautista and Danilo Petrucci experienced mixed fortunes.

Race 1

Toprak Razgatlioglu took a commanding win in the first-ever WorldSBK race held at Balaton Park, despite chaos on Lap 1 that forced a red flag. An early collision took out several riders, including Andrea Iannone, Remy Gardner, Danilo Petrucci, and Iker Lecuona — the latter suffering a broken wrist.

After the restart, Razgatlioglu dominated from the front, building a lead of nearly four seconds by the chequered flag. Behind him, Nicolo Bulega recovered to finish second, with Álvaro Bautista securing third. Andrea Locatelli and Danilo Petrucci rounded out the top five. Sam Lowes crashed out while running in podium contention, and Jonathan Rea also retired after two falls.

Superpole race

The 1000th race in WorldSBK history delivered more success for Razgatlioglu, who triumphed in the 10-lap sprint after a strong comeback. Sam Lowes initially took the lead and opened a healthy gap, but Razgatlioglu surged forward with the fastest lap of the race and passed Lowes in Turn 1 on Lap 7. Álvaro Bautista completed the podium in third.

Nicolo Bulega endured a disappointing race, finishing 13th and out of the points after a poor start. Danilo Petrucci, Tarran Mackenzie, and Ryan Vickers engaged in a fierce scrap for seventh, with Petrucci eventually emerging on top.

Race 2

Toprak Razgatlioglu completed a perfect weekend with a dominant lights-to-flag victory in Race 2, pulling out a winning margin of over ten seconds. The Turkish rider made an early move to retake the lead from Bautista and never looked back, setting the fastest lap on his way to his eighth consecutive race win.

Bulega once again finished second after a clean ride through the field, while Sam Lowes claimed his second podium of the weekend in third – the best result so far for the non-factory Elf Marc VDS Ducati team. Bautista crashed out on Lap 5 while running in the top four. Danilo Petrucci closed in on Lowes but had to settle for fourth.

A long lap penalty for Ryan Vickers after cutting the track saw him drop from sixth to outside the top ten. Alex Lowes passed Xavi Vierge late in the race to secure sixth.
